I was just watching some super productive and enlightening television (ha, yeah.) and a Burger King- Wedding Commercial came on, maybe you’ve seen it?
Anyhow, during the commercial, the couple leaves the wedding in their grand exit, hop in their limo and encounter a tray of Burger King burgers, with a sign that says “Because you never get to eat at your wedding, Love Dad,” Sure, it’s sweet and thoughtful, and gives you warm fuzzies that your dad has ensured you've eaten after your long day.
But, what really struck me was they idea that everyone seems to have: You won’t be able to eat on your wedding day.
It is not true!
And, here's what you can do to make sure you enjoy your food...
I always tell my couples, if you want to eat, then sit down and eat when I tell you to. I know, that sounds bossy, but hear me out. When there is a flow to things, an order to the night and your DJ is killing it with announcements, your guests will feel at peace knowing what they’re supposed to be doing, and what is happening next (aka not in your face). So, when your DJ introduces you into your reception, everyone standing, clapping, and cheering you on, and after you finish your first dance, head right on over to your sweet heart table and park it.
While everyone is still swooning over your sweet dance, the DJ announces that dinner will be served shortly and you’ll move into a Welcome speech or blessing of the food. Now your guests are distracted and know what they should be doing: waiting for their table to be released to the buffet or for the first course to be served.
I tell my couples, if you stay seated, and literally stay seated during hugs and hellos, you will get to finish your food. I guarantee it. Resist the urge to stand, mingle and walk around. There will be plenty of time for that while everyone else is finishing their food- and this is the perfect time to stop by every table as a couple anyway!
Nevertheless, I’ll be sure to save you a plate for your get away vehicle later in the evening, and maybe even throw in some cake. I got you, girl!
